Hullor is getting ready
Opening the doors…
Gathering stories, events and photos…
Almost there, thank you for waiting.
For the next generation of Bengali families in the UK, identity is rarely a choice between two worlds. It is often a blend of both.
Children may grow up speaking English at school, celebrating British traditions with friends, following football, music and popular culture, while also enjoying Bengali food at home, joining family pujos, listening to familiar songs and learning the stories and customs that shaped their parents and grandparents. That combination is something to value.
Upholding Bengali Indian culture in the UK does not mean asking younger generations to recreate the lives their families once knew in India. Culture stays meaningful when it is allowed to evolve. Traditions can be preserved without becoming rigid, and heritage can remain strong while embracing the confidence, openness and independence of British life. For Hullor, this means creating opportunities for children and young people to experience culture rather than simply hear about it. A festival becomes memorable when they perform, volunteer, help decorate, meet friends and feel part of the celebration. A language, song or tradition becomes more meaningful when it is connected to an experience they genuinely enjoy.
It also means making space for new interpretations. The next generation may celebrate differently, speak Bengali differently, mix cultures naturally and build traditions of their own. That does not weaken heritage. In many ways, it is how heritage survives. The goal is not to keep culture untouched. It is to keep it connected.
When children can feel equally comfortable at a Bengali celebration and in everyday British life, they do not have to choose between identities. They can carry both with confidence. Hullor hopes to help create that bridge, where Bengali Indian traditions remain visible, joyful and relevant, while younger generations are free to shape what those traditions mean in their own lives. Because the strongest culture is not simply inherited.
It is understood, lived, adapted and passed forward.
