Kali Puja is one of Bengal's most evocative spiritual traditions, dedicated to Goddess Kali, the powerful embodiment of divine strength, protection and the triumph of light over darkness. Traditionally observed on the night of the new moon around the time of Diwali, the celebration is marked by prayer, lamps, devotion and an atmosphere quite distinct from the grandeur of Durga Puja. There is an intimacy and intensity to Kali Puja that has made it deeply meaningful to generations of Bengali families. At Hullor, Kali Puja brings that spiritual tradition into our community while creating a welcoming space where families can observe the occasion together. Through the puja, devotional rituals, illumination, shared food and communitygathering, we preserve the cultural and spiritual character of the festival while helping younger generations understand the stories and symbolism behind it. The glow of lamps against an autumn evening in Great Britain may be thousands of miles from Bengal, yet the emotions surrounding the celebration remain remarkably familiar. Hullor's Kali Puja is therefore both an act of remembrance and renewal, keeping a cherished tradition alive while allowing a new generation to make it part of their own story.
